Week of September 28

Hello Families!

We have had the most amazing weather for our first full week back to school! Our class is busy learning all of our routines and procedures; I've included photos below of some of the posters we've made together this week as we discussed what a class family is and how to be a bucket filler and dipper:

Building a Classroom Community/Class Family:

Building a classroom community is the very first thing we do in my classroom and something we continue to build throughout the entire school year; in our classroom, we call ourselves a class family.

Having a strong classroom community is important to me as it helps students to feel valued and also connected to myself and their classmates while learning many important social skills including responsibility and independence. My goal is to have students feel empowered and invested within our classroom and towards their learning. By building a strong classroom community, students learn teamwork, a willingness to negotiate, cooperation and much more! Here are some of the books that we've read this week to build our classroom community; please take a moment to chat with your student about what they've learned and how they are helping to build a strong class family:

Classroom Donations:

Thank you so much for the donations of kleenex, clorox wipes, sanitizer and paper towels! They are greatly appreciated! You are welcome to send in more at any time.

As you may already know, due to COVID regulations, students are not able to drink directly from the water fountains this year; they are only able to use the bottle filler feature. I'd like to keep some of the disposable water bottles in our room for students who may forget theirs at home; that way they will still have water to drink throughout the day. If you're able to, we'd greatly appreciate donations of water bottles like the image below (does not have to be this brand):

Back to School Night:

Thank you so much for taking the time to view my Virtual Back to School Night presentation pushed out last week! If you haven't had a chance to see it or would like to go back to reference it, please visit this blog post: https://hassenger2020-2021.blogspot.com/2020/09/virtual-back-to-school-night.html

Picture Day:

Picture day is this Wednesday September 30! Order forms for pictures came home with your student on Tuesday September 22 in their take home folder. If you are in need of another form, please let me know as soon as possible.

Scholastic Book Orders - Due Friday October 9:

Each month, I'll be sending home a set of Scholastic book order forms. Ordering books is completely optional but is a fantastic way to grow your at-home library collection at a low cost.

Each book that is ordered helps our classroom to earn free books for our class library and the students LOVE to see what new books we receive each month.
If you are ever interested in ordering books as a gift and want me to set them aside for you to pick up, please let me know.
You can click the following link to place an order through our class ordering page: https://orders.scholastic.com/L63HX

Orders for this month are due by Friday October 9th.

Bear Wear Orders:

On Friday September 25th, your student should have brought home the bear wear order form (photo below). Clothing is available in both adult and youth sizing; ordering bear wear is optional. You may begin ordering on Sunday September 27th and closes on Sunday October 11th. Orders can be placed at: https://brown2020.orderpromos.com/

Fall Conferences:

Fall conferences will be held via Google Meets this year on Thursday October 15 and Friday October 16. Please click on the link below to sign up for a time slot:
