Welcome Back! September 8, 2020

     I think we need a pep talk 😀 While Kid President isn't a kid anymore, his message is incredibly encouraging, powerful, and rings true! I am thrilled to be your child's 4th-grade teacher! 

     4th-grade is an important year for a child's growth and maturity. They begin to learn how to depend less on teachers and become more independent learners. As 4th-grade teachers, we have an important role in setting the foundation for our students to become life long learners. I have taken time this summer to reflect on the silver linings from this last spring in regards to remote learning. What has stuck with me the most is that just prior to Emergency Learning, our 4th graders were very well trained in understanding how to navigate remotely. I didn't realize how well trained until they had to put their skills to the test. Our 4th-grade team of teachers along with our technology administrators gave them a firm foundation to stand on, unlike any other year. They knew how to navigate through Google Classroom, access Google Meets, save to their Google drive, do screenshots, and more, seamlessly. They were independent. It was a relief and necessary. 

     Whether we are in the classroom or remote, I am so excited to start this process and school year with all of you. There is much work to be done. It won't be easy. Let's face it, we have never done school like this before. But I'm up for the challenge. I know our 4th-graders will be too! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child's 4th-grade journey! And like Kid President says, "Let's get to it!"

Important Things You Should Know the First Week

Week 1: September 8th - September 11th

Tuesday, Sept. 8th - Last name students A-E, ½ Day 8:45-12:34

Wednesday, Sept. 9th - Last name students F-K,  ½ Day 8:45-12:34

Thursday, Sept. 10th - Last name students L-R, ½ Day 8:45-12:34

Friday, Sept. 11th - Last name students S-Z, ½ Day 8:45-12:34

First Week Classroom Information

• Please send a nutritious snack and a water bottle to school with your child each day. Water bottles can be refilled at the water filling stations in our hallway.

• I would like to ask students to bring a beach towel to school. I would like to take students outside for the opportunity to have some “mask free” learning time. We will distance students appropriately from one another. 

• Please feel free to bring in a good book to read from your home! 

Safety Information

• All students are required to wear a face mask in the building.

• Students will be hand sanitizing anytime they enter and exit the classroom. 

• We will be teaching students the proper way to hand wash.

• We have been directed that our district is following the CDC guidelines. It has been explained to us that students must always be following 2 out of 3 expectations.

• Wearing a mask

• Being socially distanced (Six feet apart)

• Being in their 4th-grade cohort

Examples: 

1. IF we are outside and are six feet apart and with our 4th-grade cohort, then we could take our masks off because we have ⅔ of the CDC expectations met. 

2. IF we are in our classroom and are six feet apart, then we could take our masks off because we are with our cohort and socially distanced. 

• For recess, we will be discussing with students when they could take their masks on and off. Basically, if they are within six feet of another student they have to have it on.
