Week of October 12
Hello Families!
Daily Student Health Screener:
Click here for a checklist of symptoms and situations to keep a focused eye on this year. The teachers are logging daily health checks, as well. We are doubling down on health and wellness in efforts to protect our ability to meet for in-person learning. Thank you for your cooperation on this.
Fall Conferences:
It's fall conference time! Thank you so much for taking the time to sign-up for a conference; I'm excited to talk with you about your students progress so far this school year. Please click the link HERE to view the schedule for this coming Thursday and Friday.
Since we are unable to have face-to-face conferences in the school building this year, all conferences will be held via Google Meet. When it is your appointment time, please click the following link from a computer, phone, tablet, etc. so we can connect: meet.google.com/hzw-qori-bws
If you click the link and someone is still meeting with me, please stick around the meet link and I will accept you in as soon as possible. Please e-mail me as soon as possible if you have any trouble accessing the link at your scheduled time.
Your partnership in your student's learning this year is so appreciated!
Homework:
Homework each week consists of reading 20+ minutes at home (this can be a library book, magazine, newspaper, online book, etc) and practicing multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year.
Students will also have a math home link page to work on most days of the week. I will always include the lessons we are working on in the blog each week so that you know when to work on each home link. These home links are not going to be turned back in, but I highly recommend that students work on them each week so that they can show you what they have worked on. I don't mind if students work a bit ahead in the packet; it is also ok if you miss a night and have to come back to that particular lesson on a different day. Times are unpredictable and I completely understand that you may have prior commitments on certain days of the week.
Online Programs:
Accessing our online programs has been limited this year as we do not yet have 1:1 computers in our classroom; we are hopeful that the districts computer order will arrive within the month! You are more than welcome to have your student work on our online programs while they are at home. Lexia Core 5 and IXL can be accessed through the Clever website (link can be found under "Useful Websites" on our Google Classroom page). Students can also access Freckle (Math and ELA practice), Khan Academy (Math, ELA and Computer Programing - students should click on "sign-in with Google" when logging in) and Epic (Reading and Listening to Reading - can only be accessed for free during the school day but they do offer a paid service that your student can use outside of the school day) can all be accessed through the "Useful Links" topic in our Google Classroom.
Mrs. Bawks' Brown School Family Blog:

This week's learning:
Classroom Community: This week, students took some time to get to know their new table group mates by answering some "Would You Rather" cards. For example, "Would you rather live on the beach or in the mountains?" I've included some pictures below from our activity. We also read the story Bad Apple: A Tale of Friendship while we talked about what a good friend looks and sounds like.
ELA: We will be building upon the knowledge gained last week (identifying main idea and supporting details, asking questions) to do a small genre study on biographies. Students will be analyzing character traits and making connections across texts they have previously read.
Thank You,
Mrs. Hassenger
