This week's learning:

Positivity Project (P2): This coming week we will be focusing on the character strength of "perseverance" - You complete what you start despite obstacles. You never give up.

ELA: This week, our focus will be on identifying cause and effect in pictures and in passages. Students will be learning about, identifying and will be able to use the signal language for cause and effect.

Looking to help your child connect what they are learning in school at home? Click on the image below and check out the activities:

Writing: This week we are continuing our persuasive writing unit. This week we will focus on generating topics for persuasive/opinion writing, point of view and writing a friendly letter.

Math:  This will be our last full week of lessons before our unit 3 assessment next Tuesday. This week we will focus on:

Monday: No school
Tuesday: Lesson 3-10 - I can read and write decimals to hundredths.
Wednesday: Lesson 3-11 - I can explore decimals in the context of measurement.
Thursday: Lesson 3-12 - I can convert centimeters to millimeters.
Friday: Lesson 3-13 - I can compare decimals using <, > and =.

Unit 3 home links were previously sent home but can also also be accessed by clicking here:

Science: As we were unable to complete the second part of our science lesson last week, we will complete the lesson this week. Be on the lookout for a

Lesson 1: Many people know on some vague level that muscles are responsible for the body’s movement… but what *exactly* do the muscles do? As your child will discover this week: the muscles work by pulling on bones at the joints. The muscles do this via strings called tendons. Your child will create a paper model of a finger based on their understanding of this process.

Any visit to the grocery store is an opportunity for you and your child to observe exactly what muscle looks like! The meat on display at the grocery store--whether chicken, fish, pork, or beef--is the muscles of those animals.

Social Studies: This week we will continue to focus on learning the physical characteristics of the Unites States. Big ideas from this lesson are:
-Place is an important theme in geography.
-Geographers investigate both the physical and human characteristics of a place.
-Physical characteristics include landforms, bodies of water, climate and vegetation.
-The United States has a wide variety of physical characteristics.

Homework:  Homework each week consists of reading 20+ minutes at home (this can be a library book, magazine, newspaper, online book, etc) and practicing multiplication and division facts 1 through 12. Mastering multiplication and division facts is vital to our learning this year.

Students will also have a math home link page to work on most days of the week. I will always include the lessons we are working on in the blog each week so that you know when to work on each home link. These home links are not going to be turned back in, but I highly recommend that students work on them each week so that they can show you what they have worked on. I don't mind if students work a bit ahead in the packet; it is also ok if you miss a night and have to come back to that particular lesson on a different day. Times are unpredictable and I completely understand that you may have prior commitments on certain days of the week.
