Week of December 7

Hello Families! Here we go with our first day of remote learning! This schedule is new to all of us so please give yourself and your child some grace as we navigate through this week. Thank you so much for all of your support; please reach out via e-mail if you need anything and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Daily Schedule:

Below you will find the daily schedule that we will follow this week. These are the times they will need to be sure to connect with the whole class (I've also posted this photo and information in their Google Classroom):

9:00am - Class Meeting 9:45am - Read Aloud, ELA lesson, Daily 5 rotations and Reading Groups 1:00pm - Math lesson 1:45pm - Share Day, Math Workshop and Math Groups

I shared the following photo with your student earlier in the year and again on Friday regarding some online expectations (click on the photo to view a bigger image):

Setting Daily Routines and Procedures (from Mrs. Bawks):

Thank you for setting up daily routines for device care with your chid(ren). We have been so proud of our students for remembering to safely transport devices to and from school. Our teachers have worked to support similar routines here at school.

While remotely learning this week, it will be important to establish a quiet learning space in your home, where your child(ren) can be most productive. Adapting our "work flow" can feel tricky and we appreciate your assistance with reviewing expectations for class connections and organization of tasks.

Common Sense Media:

Have you had the need to check the content of a movie before enjoying it with your young children? Are you wondering about the content of a new, popular online game? Common Sense Media is a FABULOUS resource for families! It is a perfect place to learn the answers to the questions above and so much more. Check it out today!

Mrs. Bawks' Brown School Family Blog:

Please don't forget to take a peek at Mrs. Bawks' Brown School Family Blog each week. CLICK HERE to read it.

Important Upcoming Dates:

Mon. 12/7 - Virtual Holiday Shop ends

Wed. 12/16 - Late Start (school starts 1 hour later)

Fri. 12/18 - Winter break begins at the end of the school day

Mon. 12/21 to Fri. 1/1 - Winter Break

Mon. 1/4 - School resumes

This week's learning:

Positivity Project (P2): This coming week we will be focusing on the character strength of "Other People Matter (OPM)" - knowing my words and actions affect others.

ELA: This week we are focusing on the genre of realistic fiction. We will be using our summarizing strategy to create a graphic organizer as we read through some realistic fiction stories.

Math: We are starting our third math unit this week focusing on fractions and decimals. Students will be learning how to use some of our online manipulative tools to help them in learning about equivalent fractions through fraction circles and number lines.

Homework:  Since we are focusing on learning through remote instruction this week, homework expectations will be different. There won't be any math home link pages but we would still like students to be reading 20+ minutes per night and practicing their multiplication facts.
